Travel Guide Kimolos Island Cyclades Greece

Palio Horio-Neo Horio

Palio Horio-Neo Horio Kimolos Island Cyclades Greece

Palio Horio is built around the medieval castle, which preserves all the elements of Cycladian architecture and is very picturesque. Most of the residences date from the 13th century and the narrow, cobblestone alleys and the many churches create an atmosphere of a different era.

Some of these houses are gradually being abandoned because they are in need of renovation, while others have been listed and are to be protected. Palio Horio is itself divided into Mesa Kastro and Ekso Kastro ("Inside Castle" and "Outside Castle").

The most recent settlement was developed in the 17th century and extends around the castle. Its architecture is frugal and in keeping with the Cycladian tradition.

Psathi Kimolos Island Cyclades Greece

Psathi is a quiet, picturesque harbour that is strikingly different to the busy ports of other islands of the Cyclades. It is a Cycladian village with snow-white residences, cobblestone alleys and many churches; it is also the most densely populated settlement on the island with many shops, taverns, cafes and rooms to let.

It is worth noticing the so-called "syrmata", caves carved into the rock where fishermen keep their boats. Psathi has a lovely beach for a swim while other nearby beaches like Alyki, Mponatsa, Klima and Monastiria are within walking distance (they can be accessed by boat as well).
