The city of Spetses is the port and capital city of the island. The wonderful mansions of the sea captains with their characteristic architecture, the small Byzantine churches, and the rocky courtyards are all examples of the local architecture which reveal aspects of a traditional way of life.
Kasteli is located on the slopes of Profitis Ilias and is the oldest part of Spetses Town. Today it is full of box-shaped traditional two-storey Spetsiote houses built of clay with tiled roofs, large coloured windows and jasmine and citrus gardens surrounded by pebble mosaic alleys and courtyards.
