The Church of Faneromeni was entirely destroyed from the earthquake of 1953 but it was rebuilt and it remains the same to this day. Many wall-paintings of the old church are now on the Byzantine museum of Zakynthos.
The church of Agios Dionysios which is the patron Saint of Zakynthos is one of the classic sights of the island. It is a pretty big and overwhelming building located on the port of the island.
The holy monastery of Spiliotisa is located on the north part of the island near a small abandoned village called Orthonies. The monastery was build near a cave, which according to tradition was found an icon of Virgin Mary. The monastery is very old as it was built around the 16th century.
