Fri is the capital and the island’s port. The residents of the village, Agia Marina, which leads down to the coast, built the settlement in 1840. Fri is the main tourist resort in Kasos. Here you will find the majority of the hotels and rooms to rent on the island.
In the taverns you can taste the local specialties. Among them the local recipe, “pasparas”, meat filled with liver, lungs, rice and dried fruits stands out.
The beautiful village of Agia Marina is located southwest of Fri, at a distance of 1km. It has well-preserved mansion houses, white churches with blue domes and graphic mills that make you think you are in the Cyclades. Touring around the village can be a pleasant stroll for the visitor. Admire the church of Saint Marina with its pebbled floor,a remarkable specimen of traditional architecture.
Emporios is the old trading harbour on the island. It is 1km east of Fri. Boats that tour around the island leave from there as do excursion boats from the neighbouring islands.
It is worth visiting the church of Panagia, the biggest on the island. In its rear courtyard you will see a small church built on the spot where the icon was found. In Emporio you will find rooms to rent and you can swim in its small protected port where the sea is crystal clear.
The small settlement of Panagia is located 1km east of Fri. During recent years it has evolved into a tourist resort as more and more hotels and complexes of rooms to rent are built every year. Being very close to the capital makes it ideal for your stay.
You will see the small church of Panagia built in 1770 and old mansions that once belonged to the island’s captains, which unfortunately are abandoned today.
