Chora is built in the middle of the west coast of the island. It is the island's capital and impresses visitors with its unique beauty. It brings together all the characteristics of the Cyclades, but many monuments from different time periods, which are visible upon entry to the beautiful port, give it a unique identity.
During the tour of the narrow streets of the city, you have the opportunity to admire the traditional architecture.
Apeiranthos or (Marmarino,) as it called by the villagers, is 25km from Chora and is found in the centre of the foothills of Mount Fanari. Apeiranthos combines its medieval architecture, culture and traditions that distinguish its residents. Apiranthos is a hilly village with no beach but you can visit the archaeological and folklore museums that are there.
Tragea is located in the central part of Naxos. Since ancient times to the present day, Tragea has been the most fertile part of the island. The main village in the area of Drimalia is Halki. Drimalia includes a lot of villages including those of hilly Naxos. Halki has many old baronial residences that reveal the financial prosperity the village once enjoyed.
Filoti is the biggest village in Naxos and is distinguished for its natural beauty. It is built in an amphiteatrical style on the hills of Mountain Za, the tallest in the Cyclades (1004m), in which, mythology says, Zeus grew up. It has a well-developed tourist industry because of its monuments and lively nightlife. It has a lot of taverns, cafes, bars and a market.
It is a beautiful village built in a valley on the hills of Mount Koronos. It is located 30km from Chora. In this region you will see the old mines of smyrid from which the hilly villages of Naxos took the name Smyridochoria. It is worth visiting the Folklore Museum and the mining transportation facilities.
Sagri is located in the southeast part of the island, 11km from Chora. It has been built on a plateau keeping the traditional style of the Cyclades islands, the picturesque windmills and the Byzantine churches. It is worth visiting the monastery of the Holy Rood which dates from the 16th century, the monastery of Saint Eleftherios and the churches of Saint Nicholas and Saint Artemios.
